I think this photo best reflects Patagonia to me - dramatic weather, mountaintops dusted in snow even in midsummer, and endless forests stretching into the distance.
I took this photo while hiking the O Trek in Torres del Paine National Park. The park has two main routes: the O Trek and the W Trek. While the W Trek can be very crowded, the O Trek takes you around the backside of the mountains, away from most people and deep into endless wet forests and over remote mountain passes.
The dramatic weather makes this trek especially memorable. Cold winds, heavy rain, and even snow are not uncommon, even during summer. But that constantly changing weather is also what makes Patagonia feel so wild and unique.
It remains one of the most memorable treks I’ve ever done, with landscapes unlike anywhere else I’ve seen before.
