I took this photo back in 2022 while hiking the John Muir Trail, shortly after crossing Pinchot Pass. For some reason, it had completely gone unnoticed in my photo library until recently. Seeing it again, I immediately fell in love with it.
There’s such a simplicity to this scene that, to me, perfectly captures what backpacking is all about.
Pitching your tent in one of the quietest and most beautiful places imaginable, watching the last light slowly disappear from the mountains while eating a dehydrated meal, and feeling that deep sense of satisfaction after a long day on the trail.
Tired, exhausted, and ready for a well-earned night in the tent.
Sometimes it’s the simplest moments that stay with you the longest.
