After completing a nine-day backpacking trip through Switzerland in early spring, I ended up in Zermatt, the mountain town located at the base of the Matterhorn. Rising high above the valley, the Matterhorn is probably one of the most iconic and characteristic-looking mountains in the world.
Its sharp pyramid shape almost looks unreal, especially when seen in person. No matter how many photos you’ve seen of it before, standing beneath it for the first time is still incredibly impressive.
