Locals sometimes call it the “sexy mountain” because Ama Dablam looks different and impressive from almost every angle. It is probably one of the most recognizable mountains in Nepal.
During my Two Passes Trek through the Himalayas, I passed through this valley and climbed Nangkartshang Peak as an acclimatization hike, a mountain just over 5,000 meters (16,400ft).
On the way up, conditions were quite foggy, but once I reached the summit, the clouds slowly started to break apart, revealing Ama Dablam rising dramatically above the valley on the other side.
I launched my drone and captured this photo while the mountain stood high above the clouds.
When I brought the drone back, I was a little shocked to see how much ice had formed on the propellers after flying through the freezing clouds. Combined with the altitude, it could easily have caused the drone to crash.
Luckily, everything worked out perfectly.
