The giant I slept under had lost more than half of its base to fire. You could actually walk inside the trunk, yet it was still alive, its enormous canopy reaching high above the forest.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eThe whole grove was covered in small sequoia cones, each only about twice the size of an acorn, yet capable of growing into the largest trees on Earth. Around my sleeping spot, tiny sequoia seedlings, no bigger than toothpicks, had started growing after the recent fire. The same fire that scarred this ancient giant had also given the next generation a chance to begin.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eThat contrast stayed with me throughout the evening.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eAs the sun filtered through the branches above, I found myself becoming unexpectedly emotional. Sitting beneath a tree that had likely been alive for well over a thousand years, I couldn’t stop thinking about how temporary we are, how fragile these forests have become, and how much beauty still exists in this world if we’re willing to protect it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eThese trees have survived storms, fires, droughts, and centuries of change. Yet today, their biggest threat is us.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eIt reminded me why I make these films. They can be more than entertainment. They can be a quiet reminder of what still exists, and hopefully inspire others to care about protecting places like this.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p3\"\u003eRemote, silent, and almost
